The short version

No account needed, no ads, no tracking. We keep what the game needs to run, for as short a time as it needs it. Unless you choose to sign in, none of it is linked to who you are. We don't sell it or share it with anyone. The only lies in Porkies are the ones you write.

Your device key

The first time you play, your phone or browser gets a random key. It is not your name, your email or your phone number, and we can't work out who you are from it. It lets you rejoin your seat if you drop out, and it is what your seen questions, your packs, your purchases and any reports are filed under.

Who runs it

Porkies runs on the Empyreal Games platform, which Empyreal Creative runs for all its games. Rooms, packs, sign-in and purchases live there, under the same rules as this page. The game is at playporkies.com.

Signing in (optional)

You never need an account to play or host. If you sign in, with an email and password, an emailed link, Apple or Google, we keep your email address, a hash of your password if you set one, and which ways you signed in, so your packs, purchases, name and settings follow you to another phone and to our other games. You can change your email or password, connect or disconnect Apple and Google, sign out everywhere, and delete the account from Settings in the app, at any time. Deleting it removes the account, its sign-ins and what it owns in every Empyreal game; what belongs to a phone stays with that phone.

Purchases

Porkies packs and the Empyreal Games Supporter membership are sold through the App Store and Google Play, and on the web through Stripe. They handle the payment; we never see card details. We keep what was bought, when, and the store's reference for it, so it can be restored and refunds can be honoured. RevenueCat, which connects the app stores to us, knows your device key and your purchases, nothing more.

What we keep, and for how long

WhatWhyHow long
Lies, truths, answers and names in a roomTo run the game, and so a report can be checkedThe room’s life, plus a day
ReportsThe reported text and the device keys involved, so we can review it30 days
Seen questionsWhich questions your device key has had, so you don’t get repeats90 days
Packs you makeThe pack, and what you typed to make it, so you can play it againUntil you delete it
Crowd pack detailsThe names and details you gave for a crowd pack, kept only inside that packDeleted with the pack
Voice clips of players’ liesSo the telly can read them outA day
Your account, if you sign inYour email, how you signed in, and the name and settings you choseUntil you delete it
PurchasesWhat was bought, when, and the store’s referenceAs long as the law needs for financial records
Usage countsWhich pages and buttons get used, with no cookies and nothing that identifies you, so we can tell what to fixKept as anonymous counts

Your name, your settings and your device key are also saved on your device. Clearing the app's or the site's data removes them.

Packs, and what happens to what you type

Place and topic packs. The place or topic you type is sent to Google Gemini, which drafts the facts and then checks each one against sources on the web. Once made, a place or topic pack may be offered to the next person who asks for the same place or topic. It holds facts about the world, never who made it.

Crowd packs. The names and details you type are sent to Google Gemini to write questions the people answer about themselves. They are never used to invent facts about anyone. They are kept only inside that pack, so you can play it again; they are never used for anything else, never offered to anyone else, and they are deleted when you delete the pack. Only type details everyone named would be happy to have in the game.

You can delete a pack from your packs at any time. A pack shared by link can be opened by anyone who has the link, until you delete it.

Checking a lie that might be the truth

When a lie looks a lot like the real answer, the lie and the answer (never anyone's name) may be sent to an AI model to decide whether they mean the same thing.

The telly's voice

When a telly is connected and its voice is on, the lies and truths it reads out are sent to Google Gemini to be spoken. The clips of what players wrote are deleted a day later. The questions themselves are recorded once and shared by every room. With no telly, nothing is sent.

Usage counts

We count how the site and the game are used (pages opened, rooms started, questions played, buttons tapped) with Umami, on our own server. It sets no cookies, stores no device ID and never sees names, lies, room codes or anything you type. Browsers that ask not to be tracked are not counted.

We also keep anonymous counts of which ways to play are started and finished, with no names, accounts or rooms attached, so we can tune them.

What we don't do

No advertising, no ad networks, no tracking across apps or sites, no selling or renting data, and no profile to build one from.

Age

Porkies is made for teenagers and adults and is not directed at children. The Kids preset is for family rooms with a grown-up hosting. After Dark is for adults only.
